Collection: Garnet

Although usually considered a red stone, Garnet is the name given to a group of gemstones of different chemical and physical properties, and you can find Garnets in a range of colors including pink, purple, brown, orange, green, black and grey.

Garnet is found throughout the world, in locations such as Africa, India, Russia, South America, Pakistan, and the United States.

The name Garnet is thought to be derived from the Latin word for “seed” because of the similarity of Garnet to a pomegranate seed.

Garnet has been used for thousands of years. Garnet jewelry has been found with artifacts from the Bronze Age, and it is thought to have been used by ancient Egyptians in 3000 B.C. It has also been found with Roman jewelry from the 3rd and 4th centuries. Garnet has been used as a sacred stone by many cultures throughout the world, and was worn as a talisman in the Crusades by both Christians and Muslims.

Victorians made garnets very popular, with some jewelry from that era mimicking pomegranate seeds, with clusters of tiny red gems forming a larger piece of jewelry.

There is a lot of folklore about Garnet. Legend says Garnet can bring peace, prosperity and good health to the home. It has been called the “Gem of Faith,” as it’s thought that those who wear it and do good will attract more good. On the other hand, bad fortune may befall anyone who commits evil while wearing Garnet.

Not only is Garnet used in jewelry, it also has many industrial uses - as abrasives, filters, cutting steel, and in place of silica sand for sandblasting,

Garnet is one of the few untreated gems.

Garnet is considered a lucky stone for love and success. It helps you let go of old behavior patterns and move forward with more confidence. It is a stone of protective energy, and said to protect the wearer from evil and to protect during travel.

Garnet’s stabilizing properties bring order to chaos. It is a great stone to wear or carry in situations where there seems to be no solution, or where life is in crisis. It strengthens and activates the survival instinct, bringing courage and hope into those situations. Garnet can help turn crisis into challenge.

Emotionally, Garnet is considered a stone of increasing commitment, honesty, hope, and faith. It is a stone of positive thoughts which is said to dispel and relieve depression..

Garnet is associated primarily with the root chakra, but also with the heart chakra.  It is used to balance, purify, align and remove negative energy from all the chakras. As a root chakra stone, Garnet is an excellent stone for manifestation. Different types of Garnet have properties that relate to other Chakras.

Garnet is thought to be extremely beneficial in the realm of business. People will be attracted to you if you wear or carry Garnet, which helps in business, as well as in personal success. It is especially beneficial to those people whose business is people-oriented. The stone is an ideal choice for people who are entering a new lifestyle, whether it is a new job or a new city.

The garnet also symbolizes deep and lasting friendship. With that in mind, give a garnet to someone whose friendship you deeply value.

Garnet is sometimes called a "stone of health" and crystal healing specialists say that Garnet can help to heal acid reflux (GERD), adrenal issues, anemia and other blood related illness. It can help the body, assimilate vitamins and minerals, help with reducing body toxins, boost immunity and generally promote good health*.

Garnet can help reduce depression and, placed under a pillow, is said to stop bad dreams.

Garnet is both the traditional birthstone of those born in January, and it is the stone for those born in the zodiac sign of Aquarius,

All garnets share some common energies due to their common formation in the Earth. Some varieties will tend to have more of one sort of energy than another, and each may also have its own crystal meanings.

When necessary, clean your Garnet with warm soapy water and rinse well.

There are different types of Garnet, each with their own, additional properties.
