The name is derived from Latin and means “seawater.” And, like seawater, Aquamarine is found in a range of hues, from light-blue to dark blue and blue-greens, although it is mainly light blue in color.
According to ancient lore, Aquamarine is believed to be a treasure of mermaids, and has long been used as a talisman to bring protection to sailors.
Most Aquamarine is mined in Brazil, although India has become a large supplier, and there are also sources in countries such as Australia, Myanmar, China, and Zimbabwe, as well as the United States.
